A thermachoice endometrial ablation involves the use of a balloon that can be filled with water to the size and shape of an individual uterus. It can then be connected to a generator that will heat this water up to 87 degrees centigrade (near boiling). It takes 8 minutes to destroy the endometrium to a depth that results in amenorrhea (no menses). Although this method takes longer than the Novasure, it offers some advantages for especially small or large uterus which is distorted by a fibroid. This method can also be safely performed after an Essure procedure since it involves no current.
