Hot Flashes
Have you ever experienced the following symptoms: a feeling of sudden warmth that seems to spread over your body, redness of the face and neck, or profuse perspiration?

If you are a menopausal woman, chances are you recognize the signs of a "hot flash." About three-quarters of all women going through manopause experience hot flashes. They can be uncomfortable and embarrassing during the day, and they can disrupt sleep at night. Fortunately, there is now a treatment that almost always stops hot flashes effectively.

This treatment is estrogen replacement therapy. Hot flashes seem to be caused mainly by the body's lack of estrogen after menopause. When replacement estrogen is given, it relieves this unpleasant symptom, along with others such as vaginal dryness. It can also reduce complaints such as insomnia caused by hot flashes during sleep.

Other medications are available for women who should not or do not choose to take extrogen. The news in gynecology today is that, with proper treatment, most hot flashes can be successfully treated.
